PINOT BLANC : HET KLEINE BROERTJE - LITTLE BROTHER?
Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir: is dat niet meer van hetzelfde? Ja en neen.
De Pinot Blanc is een witte druif en een mutant van de Pinot Gris, die op haar beurt een mutant is van de Pinot Noir. De derde in de rij, en In de klassieke literatuur heeft men er ook geen hoge pet van op. Zo lazen we onlangs dit: "De druif geeft vrij neutrale wijnen en zowel in de smaak als de geur komen appels en wit fruit naar voren. De wijnen hebben laag zuurgehalte en zijn fris en fruitig. Vanwege dit karakter is de wijn goed toegankelijk en makkelijk te combineren". En de druif wordt direct gelinkt aan de Elzas, al staat er meer Pinot Bianco in Italië en nu ook meer Weissburgunder in Duitsland. In de Elzas is haar Duitse naam " Klevner".
We proefden er onlangs, samen met Testaankoop, een kleine reeks, en geven hieronder de proefresultaten. En laat ons maar onmiddellijk zeggen dat de beschrijving hierboven helemaal niet bleek te kloppen. Er was veel meer dan appel, en soms zelfs alleen exotisch fruit aan de neus, en in de mond ontploften sommige wijnen bijna van de door zuur en licht bitter getemde rijpheid met vaak nog mineralen er boven op! Klap op de vuurpijl: de prijzen zijn verbazend democratisch (zie Aldi!)
En ook nog dit: vaak wordt gezegd dat PB een "echte mosselwijn" is, "want even zacht als deze zeevrucht". Maar goede PB kan de gezel zijn van veel gerechten, waaronder asperges "op zijn Vlaams"!

Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir: isn't that about all the same? Yes and no.
PB is a mutant of Pinot Gris, which in its turn is a mutant of Minot Noir. Literally, it is the "third in the family". In classical wine literature, there is little praise for Pinot Blanc. It is said to be "a rahter neurtral grape, with some apply fruit and fairly high acidity, which therefore needs to be blended with other grapes" And it is generally linked to the Alsace region.
Such might have been the truth 40 years ago. Today, there is more "Pinot Bianco" in italy and "Weissburgunder" (same grape) in Germany than there is in the Alsace. In the Alsace, it is also called Klevner (which, by the way, means "sticky").
We tasted a lot of Alsacian PB in connection with other grapes, and came to a quite different conclusion: far more fruit than apples, because rahter exotic in flavour and texture, plus a lot of matter and concentration. And what is interesting furthermore: prices are reasonable to sometimes quite low!

Conclusie
Heel verfijnde witfruitige, friszurige en licht mineralige Pinot Blanc. En zie deze ongelooflijke prijs!

Pinot Blanc toont zich hier van zijn beste zijde: rijp wit fruit, bloemen, mineralen en heel frisse zuren. En dat voor deze prijs!

Verrassend rijpfruitige zelfs exotische PB die echter in evenwicht wordt gehouden door de fijne zuren.Een buitenkansje!
