ALDI steeds weer?

We keren misschien wel voor de 15" keer terug naar Aldi. Niet dat we daar belangen hebben - we kopen elke fles zelf. Maar: als Alain Bloeykens een artikel publiceert met "wijnen voor weinig geld", dan vinden we daar wijnen uit veel supermarkten, maar zelden is Aldi daar bij. We weten wel: kwaliteit is daar wisselend, en ze pakken soms met stuntaanbiedingen uit. Wie echter zorgvuldig zoekt en kiest komt tot verrassende resultaten. Hieronder krijg je een uitsnede uit het witte assortiment, van Pinot Blanc en Gris over witte Port (jawel) en sherry tot de huischampagne. En er zitten echte vondsten bij!

ALDI again ?

We keep returning to the ALDI wine offerings. One reason for it is that renowned wine journalists are now writing about "good wines under 3 Euro
or 2,6 $"! And it strikes us that many supermarkets are among the prize winners, except Aldi, apart from a wine or two.

When we watch out, select, try and taste from their usual offerings - and not the occasional ones - we find an unbelievable price-quality relationship. We start with whites, from Port (yes!) and sherry over the house champagne (Durand) to Pinot Blanc and Gris.?

Aan de neus:
mooi gemengde neus van hazelnoot, boter, appel en zelfs graniet. Licht oxydatief
At the nose:
nicely mixed nose of hazelnut, cream, apple and even granite. Pleasant light oxydative touch

In de mond:
een mooi mondvol met nootjes, boter, wit fruit en goede zuren. Indrukwekkend tot in de lange afdronk
In the mouth:
a nice mouthful of nuts, cream, white fruit and good acid. Impressive long finish

Conclusie
"Mondvullende, rijpe en toch ook frissse sherry" zei een proever, en daar zijn we het helemaal mee eens. Op weg naar A+. En zie de prijs!

gedroogd rijp geel fruit met voorop blanke rozijnen, ook graniettoets

dried ripe yellow fruit with yellow raisins up front, also touch of granite

In de mond:
mondvullende volfruitige smaak met gedroogde gele pruimen en blonde rozijnen en ook wat peperkoek; mooi bittertje in de halflange levendige afdronk
In the mouth:
mouthfilling juicy palate with dried yellow plums and blond raisins plus also gingerbread; nice bitter touch in the semilong zesty finish

Conclusie
Volrijpe, bijna overrijpe witte porto die dank zij de zuren toch ook fris blijft: in de lijn van wat het huis ook in rode porto doet. Drinken voor 2012. Ongelooflijk voor die prijs!

Full ripe, almost overripe white port with saving fine acid to keep it fresh: in the line of what the house also does with its red port wines. Drink before 2012. Very good price/quality relationship

We probeerden hem als eerste met Blauwe Deense kaas en Stilton: ging vooral uitstekend bij het eerste, want hij vlakt het zout van de kaas uit tot milde ziltheid. Van een verrassing gesproken! Verder amandeltaart

We tried it, as first of the whites, with Blue Danish and Stilton cheese: was especially good with the Danish, because the wine reduces the saltiness of the cheese into creamy brininess ! Further: almond cake

De kleur doet denken aan "versleten" wijn, maar o vergissing! De gedrongen traditionele "buikfles" suggereert de grote rijpheid van deze wijn. The traditional "belly" bottle suggests its great ripeness!

In de mond:
mondvullende en krachtige witfruitige aanzet ondersteund door goed zuur en met een mooi bittertje in de halflange afdronk
In the mouth:
mouth-filling and zesty white fruity onset supported by good acid and with a nice bitter touch in the semilong finish

Conclusie
goed uitgebalanceerde frisfruitige en floraal-kruidige Chardonnay: niet het uitbundige exotische type. Grens B+/A

mondvullende aanzet, rijke mousse, fijnfruitig, fris zuur als van groene appel, met ook een elegante halflange frisfruitige afdronk

Conclusie
De "meest verkochte champagne in Fankrijk", soms meewarig bekeken, maar biedt mooie kwaliteit voor deze wel zeer lage prijs

the "most sold champagne in France" is not a topper, but deserves praise for its refined quality, at such a low price

Conclusie
Mooie tegelijk fijnfruitige en frisse Pinot Blanc: een echte plezierwijn. En dat voor deze prijs! Grens B+/A

Conclusie
mooie Pinot Gris: complex, rijp en toch friszurig met een licht bittertje aan het slot. En zie de prijs

Conclusie
zowel bloemig als witfruitig en citrustonig in neus en mond; licht uitvlakkend op het einde. Mooie gefumeerde fles. En dat voor die prijs!
