Wat zegt de naam "Douro" u? In veel gevallen zal het antwoord zijn: "de streek van de Portwijn". En dat is juist, maar onvolledig.

Oorspronkelijk werd hier eerst "gewone" maar wel krachtige rode wijn gemaakt, van druiven als Touriga Frances (cfr. Cabernet Sauvignon), Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz (= Tempranillo). En die traditie is blijven bestaan. Zie maar naar deze Altano Reserva!

 

Does the name "Douro" ring a bell to you? In most cases, the answer will be: oh Yes, that's the Portuguese river where the Porto wines are made! That answer is right, but incomplete.

Before Porto wines were made, the region was already known for its strong somewhat course reds, using grapes like Touriga Frances (cfr. Cabernet Sauvignon), Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz (= Tempranillo). And that tradition still persists, and has now reached top level. See this Altano Reserva!.

Voor het oog:
donker paarsrood met mooie schakeringen, met stevige beentjes
To the eye:
dark purplish red with shiny mirror, shows solid legs
Aan de neus:
delikaat klein rood fruit (kers en braam) met aangename rokerige toets plus ook chocolade, koffie en vanille (eik)
At the nose:
delicate small red fruit (cherry and blackberry) with pleasant smokey touch plus chocolate, moccha and vanilla (oak)
In de mond:
soepele rijpfruitige aanzet met perfect balans tussen moëlleux, zuur en tannine; heel complexe smaak met lange evenwichtige afdronk
In the mouth:
supple ripe fruity onset with perfectly balanced sweet-sour-bitter; very complex palate with long integrated finish
Conclusie
Dat in de Douro niet alleen Porto maar ook steengoede "tinto" wordt gemaakt wisten we al lang. Deze Altano is daar met zijn diepfruitige en toch frisse oerkracht een overtuigend bewijs van. Nog een pluim op de hoed van Symington!		 Conclusion 
We have known for a long time that Douro means more than Port wine: this Altano is one more excellent proof of the deepfruity, zesty yet fresh potential of the Douro reds!

We hadden hem bij gepanneerde en in honing en peper gemarineerde kalkoen met bruschetta, kruidige tomatensaus en tagliatelle plus parmezaan: heerlijk! Kan alle stevige schotels aan, plus harde kazen
Drink with:
We had it with breaded turkey marinated in honey and pepper with bruschetta, spicy tomato sauce and tagliatelle plus parmesan: magnificent! Will be solid companion to all spicy dishes plus hard cheeses
