We hebben weer eens de Casilleroreeks van Concha y Toro doorlopen, jaargang 2008. En toch klare verschillen met 2007 ontdekt: toen primeerden Cabernet, Viognier en Pinot Noir. Nu staat de Carmenère hoog op het podium, gevolgd door Chardonnay en Pinot Noir. Niet dat de rest uit de toon valt - want het huis blijft op kwaliteitskoers;

Het duiveltjeslogo op de fles staat eigenlijk voor een engeltje...

We have once more explored the Casilleroseries of Chile's greatest winery: Concha y Toro. The vintage 2008 gives different results than the 2007 one: then Cabernet and Pinot Noir were top in the reds, and Viognier in the whites. This time Carmener stands high on the podium, followed by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

2008

Voor het oog:
geconcentreerd robijn met paarse rand, stevig tranend
To the eye:
concentrated ruby with purplish rim, shows legs

Aan de neus:
attractieve neus met donkerrood fruit (donkere kers, braambes, donkere pruim), Noir de Noir chocolade, koffie en lichte kruidigheid
At the nose:
attractive nose with dark red fruit (dark cherry, blackberry, dark plum), black chocolate, mocha and light spiciness

In de mond:
sappige donkerfruitige aanzet met weer kers en braam plus chocolade en koffie, ingebed in frisse zuren en zachte tannines; lange zalige diepfruitige afdronk
In the mouth:
juicy darkfruity onset with again cherry and blackberry plus chosolate and mocha, embedded in fresh acid and mellow tannin; and with a long deep fruity finish

Conclusie
Een echt raspaard deze Chileense Carmener: opstuivend rijp donkerrood fruit, zachte tannines, getemd door goed zuur. Wel alcoholrijk - maar dat is wereldwijd een gewoonte geworden. Drinken voor 2012. NZ CUISINE BEST BUY under $25

Conclusion
Deepfruity blood horse Carmener from Concha y Toro: dark cherry and berries, soft tannin, tamed by good acid. Fairly high alcoholic degree - but that is a wordlwide phenomenon. Will last through 2012. NZ CUISINE BEST BUY under $25

We had it with several spicy meat dishes: spicy sausage, young pigeon with broccoli, stew. Each time a nice marriage!

2008

Voor het oog:
helder citroengeel, stevig tranend, mooie spiegel
To the eye:
clear pale lemon, solid legs, muscled, nice mirror

Aan de neus:
rijke neus van tropisch fruit (mango), citrus, licht getoaste amandel, peer, honig en lichte toets vanille (eik)
At the nose:
wealthy aromatic spectre: exotic fruit (mango), citrus, lightly toasted almonds, honey, light vanilla (oak)

In de mond:
volronde en diepfruitige aanzet met weer mango en rijpe peer, bovendien romig maar ook fijnzurig; lange fruitig-romige afdronk
In the mouth:
full fruity and juicy onset with again mango and ripe pear, creamy yet also acdily; long fruity-creamy finish

Conclusie
Zoals we hem al vele jaren kennen: zowel diepfruitige als fijnzurige Chardonnay in de stijl van het Concha y Toro huis; drinken voor 2010. Alcohol: 14% Grens A/A+

As we have known it from Concha y Toro for so many years now: both fruity-creamy yet also fresh Chardonnay style. Drink before 2010. Gold Medal Challenge du Vin Paris

Comté-kaas of andere halfharde kazen, asperges op zijn Vlaams of met zalm, snoekbaars op het vel gebakken met knolselderpuree (zoals wij deden), tomaat-garnaal
Drink with:
Gruyère-type cheese or other semihard cheeses, asparragus with crumbled baked egg in butter sauce or with salmon, river bream baked on its skin with sellery puree (as we did), tomatoes with grey shrimps and mayonnaise

CASILLERO DEL DIABLO PINOT NOIR RESERVA 2008 - Chile - Valle Casablanca
2008

Voor het oog:
purpertonig kersenrood, redelijk geconcentreerd, steivg tranend (alcohol)
To the eye:
purply moderately concentrated cherry, shows legs (alcohol)

Aan de neus:
attaractieve neus met kers en rode bes en aardbei, snoepjes, maar ook wat koffie, vanille (eik) en chocolade
At the nose:
attractive nose of first cherry and redcurrant, plus strawberry, sweets, vanilla (oak) and a touch of coffee and chocolate

In de mond:
frisfruitige aanzet met weer kers en bes en de snoepjes, gedragen door fijne zuren en met mokkatoets; lange fijnfruitige afdronk met kers en bes in de retro
In the mouth:
fresh fruity onset with again cherry and red berries plus candies clad in fine and pungent acid and some coffee; long fine fruity finish with cherry and berries in the retronasal phase

Conclusie
Zoals voorheen: Pinot Noir van "zuiders", niet direct Boergondisch type: veel rijp rood fruit ingebed in fijne zuren, met ook koffie en snoep, maar geen aardse toetsen. Kan nog 2-3 jaar mee. De 2007 was net iets beter. Grens A/A+

Conclusion
As before: A Pinot Noir of the "southern" no directly Burgundy type. Lots of ripe red fruit with quite refined acid plus coffee and sweets, but no earthy touch. And one does not notice the high degree of alcohol!The 2007 was a tiny bit better

Drink bij:
We hadden hem met gebakken worst, broccoli en nicolasaardappelen: ging daar goed bij. Verder alle romige kaas (camembert) en risotto van tonijn
Drink with:
We had it with rabbit-in-prune-and-winesauce plus basmati rice: very good combination! Further all white meat, creamy cheeses and risotto of tuna
