Schloss Esterhazy

Esterházy is een oud, zeer invloedrijk en rijk magnatengeslacht uit Hongarije. De familie gaat terug tot de dertiende eeuw en heette oorspronkelijk Zerházy. Het geslacht heeft verschillende bekende militairen, staatslieden en mecenassen voortgebracht. Vooral de connectie met Haydn is bekend. Hij was kapelmeester van de familie en verzorgde als hofkapelmeester vele concerten, vaak ook met eigen ter plaatse geschreven werk. Als beloning kreeg hij dan ...kistjes wijn. Want hier werd en wordt al sedert de jaren 1500 wijn verbouwd. Een tiental jaar geleden is hier een heel nieuwe chai gebouwd met de modernste technologie. 42 ha wijngaarden bevatten zowel inheemse (Zweigelt, Welschriesling) als "internationale" rassen (Pinot Blanc en Noir).
The aristocratic family Esterhazy has a long tradition dating back to the 13th century. As viceroys of the Hungarian royal family, they were associates and confidantes of the house of Habsburg, and held a number of important official posts. Composer Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) entered into the count’s services in 1761, and later became the court concertmaster. His best works were composed here, and part of his remuneration, by contract, was in the form of wines from the count’s cellars. The newly built „Esterházy Winery”, with a state-of-the-art cellar was completed recently. The total vineyard area is 42 hectares, located to the west of Lake Neusiedl and on the slopes of the Leitha hills. No less than 11 varieties are grown here..

Voor het oog:
helder bleekgeel, mooie spiegel
To the eye:
clear pale yellow, nice mirror
Aan de neus:
zowel duidelijke florale impressies (witte bloemen) als ook gerijpt wit fruit
At the nose:
both clear floral impression (white flowers) as well as ripe white fruit
In de mond:
frisfruitige aanzet met rijpe appel én ook gele pruim plus abrikoos, ingebed in goede zuren en met een mooi floralig bittertje in de halflange afdronk
In the mouth:
fresh fruity onset with ripe apple plus yellow plums and apricot, all of this supported by good acid; a nice floral bitter touch in the semilong finis
Conclusie
Een Pinot Blanc die heel wat meer belooft dan het oog laat vermoeden: rijp wit fruit, witte bloemen, goed zuur en mooie bittertoets. Kortom: aantrekkelijk én complex		   Conclusion

matig geconcentreerd kersenrood met licht paarse weerglans, toch ook enige evolutie
To the eye:
moderately concentrated cherry with a purplish shine, yet slightly evolved
Aan de neus:
charmante neus met delikaat rood fruit (aardbei, kers, rode bes) en wat snoep: heel fris
At the nose:
charming delicate fruity nose (strawberry, cherry, redcurrant) and touch of sweets: refreshing
In de mond:
redelijk complexe smaak met eerst rijp rood fruit, doorweven door frisse zuren en edele tanninestructuur; middellange frisfruitige afdronk, met mooi zuurtje in de retro
In the mouth:
fairly complex palate with first ripe red fruit, then fresh acid pops up, complemented with fine tannin; semilong fresh fruity finish; nice acid prick in the retronasal phase
Conclusie
Heel elegante fijnbesnaarde tegelijk fruitige, frisse en voldoende stevige Pinot Noir. Doet echt aan goede Bourgogne denken (zoals een blindproever ook zei)		   Conclusion
Quite elegant finetuned both fruity, fresh and yet solid Pinot Noir. As someone said in blindtasting the wine: this has full Burgundy character
