Wie naar monocépages Syrah-Shiraz zoekt, moet soms lang zoeken. In alle warenhuizen samen zijn dat er ca 20, onder de prijs van 10 €. Syrah wordt in wijnencyclopediën omschreven als
"variërend in aroma van viooltjes en bessen (meestal donkerkleurige), chocolade, espresso en zwarte peper.
Geen aroma kan als typisch worden beschouwd, alhoewel braambes en peper vaak genoemd worden.
Naargelang de wijn veroudert worden deze primaire aroma's en smaken verzacht ten gunste van meer
aardse en tertiaire toetsen zoals leder en truffel".
Verwacht dus een grote variatie.
Recentelijk proefden we zo'n 20 "pure" Syrah's uit alle 's heren landen, en eigenlijk was de variatie nog groter: van donker robijn tot lichte Bourgognekers als kleur, en gaande van rode over zwarte bes naar cassis, over peper en gerookt hout tot snoepjes, tot caramel en boter in neus en mond.
Uitgaande van de prijs stellen we twee kleine reeksen voor: Syrah onder de 5 Euro, en Syrah tussen 5 en 10 €.
In spite of its reputation, pure Syrah or Shiraz wines are not easy to find - because Syrah is mainly used in blends, as in the French Rhône, where it seems to have originated. Encyclopedias like Wikipedia describe syrah as follows: " Aroma characters can range from violets to berries (usually dark as opposed to red), chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called "typical" though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these "primary" notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory "tertiary" notes such as leather and truffle.
Let the variety of flavours be big, yet, following a recent blind tasting, the multiple changes in colour, depth, flavours and palate from one wine to another is still greater than described above.
One thing is sure however: you can get good to very good quality for very low prices. We present two series:
one with wines for less than 5 €, and one series of wines between
5-10 € .

Conclusie
Dit blijft een heel mooie Barossa Shiraz, die ons aan de beste Hermitages herinnert: fruitig, krachtig maar vooral ook grote elegantie. En let op de prijs! Veelvoudige medaillewinnaar. Kan nog 6-7 jaar mee.

A very attractive Barossa, reminding us of the best Hermitages (Rhone): fruity, meaty and above all elegant. Quite good quality-price relationship. Multiple Medal Winner. Will last through 2020

Conclusie
De volfruitige én licht kruidige, wat gecarameliseerde en goed geëikte net niet-commerciële stijl van de Lindemans basis Syrah zoals we die al jaren kennen.
